A Response to Last Week’s Boston Globe Article From Board President Susan Larson

I’m writing in response to the article last week in The Boston Globe detailing incidents of sexual harassment and assault at the Boston Conservatory at Berklee. On behalf of Guerilla Opera, we would like to extend our most sincere sympathies to anyone affected by the behavior described in this story.

Unfortunately, incidents of this nature are common not only in learning institutions, but also in the community-at-large. I have experienced some of them myself. They are difficult to report and many individuals remain silent. We would like to acknowledge the courage of those who came forward in the article — both women and men, named and unnamed.

Guerilla Opera stands in support of the Boston Conservatory at Berklee community where we have made our home for more than ten years. This issue has affected us deeply as two of our founding artists were on record in the Globe’s story. We hope that this is truly a turning point when such behavior will never be tolerated and we are committed to working with the Conservatory to ensure the safety of the students as well as our artists.
