DICKINSON delves into the enigmatic world of Emily Dickinson, exploring her vivid imagination, profound insights, and the emotional extremes of her self-isolation and despair. With music composed by Pulitzer Prize-winning Roger Reynolds, the work is part song cycle, part dramatic recitation, and a virtuosic showcase for baritone Jonathan Nussman.
Directed by Kyle Johnson and filmed during the height of the COVID-19 lockdown, the film captures the uncertainty and isolation of its time, mirroring Dickinson’s own sequestered life and poetic genius. Blending music, poetry, and performance art, DICKINSON offers a contemporary perspective on the legacy of one of America's most iconic poets, reflecting on themes of solitude, resilience, and creativity in the face of adversity.
